Since the film was set in the future, Shankar wanted to portray a more contemporary look with less make-up for the characters with Vadivelu being selected to play the role of Hercules's sidekick, while Sarathkumar's character would be modelled on Indian freedom fighter, Bose. The team began shooting with a schedule in Chennai in May 2013 with Siddharth joining in late June that year. The early portions of filming were mostly shot at Binny Mills and Mumbai while significant portions were also shot at Georgia in early 2014.
